From PROFESSIONAL SERVICES The Peterborough School
Visitors to Peterborough High School are always struck by the friendly, yet productive atmosphere generated by staff and pupils alike. The small, welcoming community buzzes with activity and the pupils' enjoyment of being there is clear to see.
Babies and young children up to 4 years are cared for at the Nursery, situated in the school's beautiful grounds and offering exceptional day care. French, Ballet and "Little Kickers" football are offered as optional extras and the Nursery's own third garden area was opened recently. The children also have access to the school's facilities and the Nursery enjoys strong links with the school's Preparatory Department.
All parents want the best possible education in small classes so that from the start their children learn the basics of literacy, numeracy, science and other subjects thoroughly and this is the foundation of education at Peterborough High.
The Preparatory Department provides a broad and balanced curriculum to meet the needs of each boy and girl. We aim to develop in our pupils lively, questioning minds so that they acquire knowledge, skills and understanding in all elements of study. All children from Reception Class upwards study French as part of their curriculum and the National Curriculum is enhanced by specialist Senior School teaching staff in subjects such as ICT, RE, Latin and PE.
Outside of the classroom, each term there are more than 25 extra-curricular clubs and activities, ensuring that every child is involved. Regular matches and fixtures with other Prep Schools also encourage participation in competitive team sports and our achievements are many.
The only independent all girls' school for 11 to 18 year olds in the area, the Senior School is distinguished by its small class sizes, which provide excellent individual attention for academic and social development. Senior School combines high academic achievement, traditional values and strong pastoral care with a progressive, modern outlook and broad range of subject options at GCSE and A Level. Some scholarships and bursaries are available at 11+ entry and 16+ to give access to girls whose circumstances might not otherwise enable them to flourish. Key to the school's success is the ability to enable girls to achieve levels higher than those originally expected.
For working parents, before and after school care is available to children of all ages and is located in the on-site boarding house. Flexible boarding arrangements can also be made.
Most importantly, what is often most evident to visitors, is that this is a school where children are taught the value of kindness, courtesy and good manners. Visitors are very welcome in school and we encourage prospective pupils and parents to come and experience for themselves our "Education with Character".
Peterborough High School is a member of the Woodard Corporation of schools.
