A website is providing patients with information they need on medical laboratory tests. Lab Tests Online, funded by the Health Foundation, explains laboratory tests in simple terms, what results may show and what action their doctor might take. It also explains how they fit into routine care as well as describing the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of conditions and diseases.

The information is also being made available through NHS Direct Online.

The launch was also attended by the Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Sue Hill, who described the site as "a tremendous resource for patients and healthcare professionals alike and will help lower the barriers between the patient and the professional. Lab Tests Online provides a fantastic means of communicating with people and will play an important role in health service modernisation leading to a patient experience as it should be in the 21st century."
