Click for Full Details: www.nabp.netAmid increased concern over the growing epidemic of counterfeit drugs, the National Associations of Boards of Pharmacy has launched a website and a series of podcasts to educate the public. Recently, the World Health Organisation estimated that eight to ten percent of the global medicine supply chain is counterfeit, which translates into a (US) $32 billion business, with an extraordinary capacity to harm millions of Americans.
"Although counterfeit drugs are hard to pick out from the real ones, the composition of these drugs are vastly different," said Carmen Catizone MS, RPh, DPh, executive director/secretary of the NABP. "Today, our state and federal governments are taking strides to better protect our drug supply and ensure safety for the future. We hope to better educate people on the issue of counterfeit drugs through these new resources."
The NABP website helps educate the public and pharmacists on how easy it is to confuse counterfeit drugs with authentic products because they look so much alike. Dangerouspill.com has many resources that can help better identify and report counterfeit drugs, including a list of the nation's most susceptible prescribed products.
"Raising public awareness that these 'fake' drugs are out there is the first step in securing not only our own health, but the health of our country," said Catizone. "We need to be able to identify these products and penalise those who are putting our safety at risk."
