Immune Profiles in Mild and Severe Asthma

Asthma is a complicated network of inflammatory reactions. It is classified into mild, moderate, and severe persistent asthma. An article published recently in BMC Immunology says that patients with different grades of asthma severity show differences in immunological parameters, with mild asthma exhibiting a Th2 cytokine profile, and more lymphocyte apoptosis than severe forms of asthma, in which Th1 cytokines predominate, and inflammation persists.
